ACOM Healthcare Business Division Releases Major Enhancements to Kiosk and RAPID Chiropractic Software; End-to-End Paperless Office now a Reality for Practices and Emerging Pain Management Center Environments

JACKSONVILLE, Florida, February 13, 2008 – After pioneering the concept of the patient self-registration kiosk for chiropractic offices in 2006, the ACOM Healthcare Business Division has now introduced Kiosk 2.0, an enhanced version that extends the power of the RAPID chiropractic software with the ability to populate any clinical or business form with both new and stored information, it was announced today by Division Vice President Gregory T. Church.

Church also announced the launch of RAPID EMR 5.2, a powerful new version of the chiropractic software that is oriented toward the rapidly emerging multi-discipline pain centers. The new version provides a fully featured prescription pad as well as a more powerful and flexible SQL database option for larger, more complex practices.

“The paperless practice is now a reality,” Church said. “These developments further establish ACOM as the preeminent resource for clinical and practice management solutions for chiropractic offices and allied fields,” Church said. “They broaden the applicability of the RAPID chiropractic software suite significantly, establishing seamless document flow between a practice’s clinical and business sides. With the RAPID chiropractic software suite, doctors have the flexibility to go to whatever level of practice they wish to reach.”

The Kiosk initially focused on the clinical side of the practice but with Kiosk 2.0 it is also integrated with the RAPID EPM practice management system. Together the two comprise the RAPID Complete total solution.

The Kiosk unit is a touch-screen tablet computer with resident interactive RAPID chiropractic software. Kiosk 1.0 eliminated the need for doctors or staff members to waste time on patient visits by providing an interactive electronic form on which patients populate their electronic records with personal information and complaints.

“Version 2.0, which can be used not only with ACOM software but with other solutions as well, allows doctors to store an unlimited number of electronic clinical and/or business form templates that patients can complete, sign on-screen and store without ever involving a paper document.”

Church noted that standardized forms such as HIPAA, Assignment of Benefits, Informed Consent, Medical Record.

Releases and Authorizations can be scanned into the RAPID system and that doctors can add macros for filling out certain sections to further streamline the document generation process. Doctors can also create or build out their library of forms using Microsoft Word and similarly incorporate discrete macros in their new forms. All forms are available for patient information entry at the Kiosk.

“Many chiropractors are joining forces with other healthcare professionals to create pain management centers, and ACOM developers have anticipated this trend in RAPID EMR v. 5.2,” he said. “The pain management environment implies the issuance of prescriptions, so we have upgraded our prescription pad with all of the relevant elements: number of tablets, frequency of dosage, patient instructions, and so on. The patient copy of the prescription form is produced directly from the system.”

Moreover, Church added, RAPID EMR is now offered with the choice of a Microsoft Access database or Microsoft SQL Server database.

“Access is fine for small-to-medium practices, but as the pain management center concept has progressed, it has become obvious that the power and flexibility of SQL search is far more appropriate for such complex practice environments,” he said. “One of the virtues of the RAPID approach is that it can
